University of Bristol (2019–2021)
Valerio was born and raised in Italy. He received his B.Sc. at the University of Catania and M.Sc. at the University of Bologna. After a visiting experience at the University of Lund (Sweden), he obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Manchester (UK), under the supervision of Prof. Michael Ingleson. He was then awarded a mobility grant by the Royal Society of Chemistry with which he moved to the University of Toronto (Canada) working with FRS Prof. Douglas Stephan. Thus, he returned to the UK as a Doctoral Prize Fellow at the University of Bristol (UK), supervised by Prof. FRS Varinder Aggarwal. In 2022 he joined the University of Milan as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Chemistry to then get hired as Tenure Track Assistant Professor (RTDb) in the group of Prof. Daniele Passarella. In 2026, Valerio was promoted to Associate Professor.
Academic activities
- Member of the Organizing Committee of the International Summer School of Natural Products (ISSNP) – since 2024
ISSNP is an incredible opportunity for PhD students and young researchers to immerse themselves in cutting-edge research, with a focus on interdisciplinary and intersectoral learning, networking, and collaboration. The school features an innovative focus on interactive sessions, delving into diverse topics including genome mining, docking, bioinformatic analyses of mass data, and more.
Upcoming ISSNP Edition: 29 June – 4 July 2025, Torre del Greco, Italy - Member of the Organizing Committee of the International School of Process Chemistry (ISPROCHEM) – since 2023
The main aim of the school is to provide basic training to the next generation of chemists who are interested in starting a career as process chemists in the Pharmaceutical Industry. Additionally, through its advanced school, ISPROCHEM will serve as a forum for training and discussion among more experienced professionals on topics of growing interest.
